Noida plans a double-decker elevated road

Delhi/NCR
In a bid to reduce travel time between Delhi and Ghaziabad, the Noida Authority wants to build a double-decker elevated road from Sector 63 towards NH-24 and has sought an NOC (no objection certificate) from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

“The starting point of the double-decker elevated road will be at Chijarsi village in Sector 63. It will circle over NH-24 and provide exit and entry points from Delhi, Ghaziabad, Bulandsahar and Meerut,” said KR Verma, in-charge of work circle 4.

Officials said that they expect the NOC for the elevated road, to be built at a cost of Rs 700 crore, to come through in October.

“We will then draw out the design and send it, along with the estimate, for vetting to IIT Delhi. After this, tenders will be initiated for the construction of the proposed project. We have already got a go-ahead from the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA),” Verma said.

One of the proposed elevated roads would be four lanes while the second one will be six lanes, officials said, adding that the height of the proposed project will be about 18 meters, and hence it will not require permission from the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

The double-decker elevated road has been proposed to enhance connectivity. Once in place, the project will connect to the under-construction Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) expressway, the officials said.

Besides cutting down on the distance between Delhi and Ghaziabad, it will also provide relief to scores of commuters who frequent the stretch daily and get stuck in long gridlocks.

Meanwhile, Noida Authority, in an attempt to de-congest the city, has also proposed an underpass on the severely clogged Dadri-Chalera-Surajpur (DSC) road. The project is estimated to come up at a cost of Rs 58 crore and will have four lanes. It will run parallel to the link road between Sector 72 and Noida-Greater Noida expressway.

“We also plan to widen the DSC road near the Special Economic Zone. Currently, the carriageway is two lanes each. This point over the drain will be widened by one lane each and is estimated to cost Rs one crore,” said an official.
